🐾 Why are "Old Man" Names for Dogs BOOMING? (+ AI robot for dog names)

Hey there!

Have you noticed an uptick in old man human names being given to dogs?

As someone who runs a website visited by thousands of people looking for dog names each month - I sure have!

  1. A surprising shift towards "Old Man" dog names has emerged, blending tradition with a touch of sophistication.

  2. People actually want to use AI to custom-generate names for their dogs based on themes and personalities rather than reading the old lists

Two trends, one nostalgic, one futuristic…

I actually learned how to make a custom AI and made a free and easy-to-use dog name generator! But more on that later…

First - why are names like "Arthur" and "Harold" capturing the hearts of dog owners everywhere?

Since we first published the list of the best old man dog names several years ago - I have seen a five-fold increase in people looking for old man-inspired names.

A Deeper Look at the Trend:

  • Connection to the Past: These names carry a sense of history and legacy.

  • Unique Identity: Names such as "Clarence" or "Reginald" offer a distinctive identity in a sea of common pet names.

  • Character Reflection: Names like "Oscar" or "Theodore" suggest a personality rich in depth and charm.

People need to take care though…

Choosing a dog's name is more than a whimsical decision; it's a foundational aspect of your pet's identity and your communication with them. Here are key considerations:

  • Clarity and Ease: A name should be easily distinguishable from everyday commands and other pets' names.

  • Longevity: Select a name that will suit your dog throughout their life, reflecting both their character and your long-term bond.

  • Positive Association: Choose a name that you'll feel comfortable and happy calling out in any setting.

Personally I have no issue with the trend - and really enjoyed updating the list of old man dog names.

As long as people remember they need to train the dog with that name and choose accordingly I am happy.

We Built an AI Dog Idea Generator

For some fun, we made this AI-powered thoughtful dog name generator.

You can ask it to create names based on themes (e.g., Star Wars), dog coat colors (white, red), concepts (e.g., scary dog names, names starting with e), or basically any combination you can think of!

I asked the AI to consider best practices for dog names (short, ending in a vowel if possible, trainable, and limited confusion with common commands)

This tool, designed with both fun and functionality in mind, aims to bridge the gap between traditional lists and modern pet naming practices.

The linked special page for email subscribers has no ads. Feel free to share it with anyone you think is interested!

Any thoughts on old man dog name trends or the AI? Your feedback on our new name generator and the names it inspires would be greatly appreciated.

Warm regards,
